I have bad credit and bought a rundown property and fixed it up over time. I used my own money in financing the purchase of the property and have no mortgage. Is it possible for me to get an home equity loan for this property? its market value is around $120,000 and its assessed value is $50,000. Thanks for any input.

My brother and I need cash for a business venture and would like to take a loan out against an residential investment property that we co-own free and clear. Is our only option a Home Equity Loan? Ideally we would like to take advantage of the lower rates of a standard mortgage.

For instance, if a bank in Japan has 30 year fixed rates at 2.5% could we apply for that loan on a property here in the US?

The property is financed through a private party, not a bank or mortgage co. Can you get a home equity loan to fix it up? Or a home improvement loan? even though there is a lien on the property?

My husband and I are thinking of purchasing an investment property by way of using a home equity loan on our first home. Is this a smart thing to do? what are the down sides of it? We don’t have money of our own in the bank to do it, but it seems like a good time to take advantage of the changing real estate market.

I own a home right now where I am still paying PMI. I also have a rental property. I would like to take a home equity loan on the rental property to pay-off some of my mortgage so I will not have to pay PMI to my first home anymore. Will the interest I pay on the home equity loan on my rental property be tax deductible?
